Banihal : In a step towards enhancing early childhood education, the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Ramban, in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Foundation, provided teaching and learning kits to Anganwadi workers in Banihal. The initiative, under the POSHAN Project, aims to address the local educational needs of children attending Anganwadi centres.
These learning kits, developed after thorough feedback and assessment of local requirements, include essential tools for cognitive development, including play-based learning materials, soft toys and other educational tools designed to foster an inclusive and engaging learning environment for young children.
For the past two years, the CII Foundation has adopted a number of Anganwadi centres in Banihal and Gool Area of Ramban district focusing on capacity building of Anagnawadi workers and infrastructure improvement of identified Anganwadi Centers . The partnership includes the training of Anganwadi workers to enhance their skills in child-inclusive education and cognitive development. The training is being currently extended to all Anganwadi Workers of ICDS project Gool and Banihal ensuring that every worker is equipped with the necessary knowledge and tools.
In addition to the capacity building programme for Anganwadi workers, ICDS Ramban has undertaken infrastructure enhancement in the adopted Anganwadi centres through the CII Foundation and its implementing partner Jammu and Kashmir Social Worker Organisation. These improvements include painting, beautification, and furnishing of the centres to create a more conducive learning environment.
The Project Officer ICDS Ramban Jahangir Hahami distributed the learning kits among Anganwadi workers. He emphasized that the POSHAN Project aims for a holistic development approach, which includes not only providing hot cooked meals but also monitoring child growth, offering health supplements, and implementing play-based learning methods. The ultimate goal is to transform Anganwadi centres into upgraded versions of kindergartens, reducing the need for private preschools.
