Srinagar :Police on Saturday said that it launched a relentless campaign against the individuals involved in drug peddling and supplying of narcotics in Handwara, besides acting tough against the militant handlers involved in militant activities in Handwara.
In a statement issued from Police Media Centre PHQ Srinagar Police said that while acting against the menace of drug peddling Police in Handwara initiated a series of strict and vehement actions against all such accused persons who were involved in the illegal narcotic and drug trade by attaching their properties acquired from wealth obtained through illegal activities.
Police in its statement further said that during the course of investigation of different cases registered against all these drug peddlers, where ever it was learnt from the incriminating facts unraveled in the investigations that drug peddlers had managed to build and raise assets from the illegal narcotic trade, action against them was initiated as per the provisions of the law.
Stating that ten cases registered against four known drug peddlers in Handwara area, property assessed to be around Rs 73,52,831 were attached in the current year, Police in its statement said that the property attachments are in pursuance to the investigation of the cases registered against these peddlers.
Police in its statement furthermore said that a serious kind of deterrence to all such elements, in addition to the property attachments of drug peddlers, preventive detention under the provisions of PIT NDPS was also invoked against the eight persons in the current year having a history of involvement in drug trade and narcotics dealing.
Stating that Initiating a similar line of action against the handlers declared as proclaimed offenders by the court of law, land assets of variable measures owned by such militant handlers in Handwara area has been attached which cumulatively is assessed to be nearly around 3.5 Kanals approximately, Police in its statement further said that four militant handlers wanted for their involvement in various kinds of militants activities and deemed as absconders by the court of law were declared as proclaimed offenders. Pointing out that action against the said militant handlers under the relevant sections of law was initiated and their properties were got identified by authorities through appropriate channels. Stating that the identified properties owned in the name of the said militant handlers were attached by the court of law and similar action is in progress against the other 51 militant handlers eclared as proclaimed offenders by the court of law and are involved in cases pertaining to militancy in Handwara, Police in its statement further said that District Magistrate Handwara has also been communicated to initiate the process of marking red entries in revenue records against these militants handlers of Handwara operating from Pak Administered Kashmir (PaK) so as to prevent these assets from getting liquidated and restrict their utility to the militant ecosystem.
