Srinagar: Below is the timeline of the weeklong major public events witnessed within and outside Jammu & Kashmir:-

  1. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha invited devotees from India and abroad to the annual Amarnath Yatra which begins on June 29.Sinha urged the devotees to become the messengers of equality, brotherhood, humanity and harmony.
  2. Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh, Director General, National Cadet Corps this week called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan. He was accompanied by Maj Gen Rajesh Kumar Sachdeva, ADG, NCC Directorate, J&K and Ladakh. The DG NCC discussed with the Lt Governor various important matters pertaining to the expansion of the National Cadet Corps in the UT of J&K.
  3. The School Education Department has constituted a committee for drafting and continuous updation of the status document on the implementation of National Education Policy-2020 in Jammu and Kashmir. The nine-member committee shall conduct a comprehensive review and analysis of the NEP 2020 recommendations, aligning with its objectives and develop a detailed action plan for the implementation of NEP 2020, including timelines and milestones.
  4. Over 18,000 migrant voters out of 26000 registered Kashmiri Pandit voters are eligible to exercise their right to franchise across the country in Baramulla -Kupwara Lok Sabha constituency in North Kashmir going to polls in fifth phase along with 49 Lok Sabha seats of six States and two Union Territories on May 20.
  5. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has booked four people, including two Revenue officials, under the Prevention of Corruption Act for the illegal transfer of a piece of land in Rajouri district.
  6. Two infiltrating militants were killed as the Army foiled a major infiltration bid in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district. Security forces gunned down two intruders who were trying to sneak in. The security forces challenged them to return, however they refused, resulting in exchange of fire leading to killing of two infiltrators.
  • 7: The cumulative turnout in the first four phases of the Lok Sabha elections has been recorded at 66.95 per cent, the Election Commission said on Thursday, adding 45.10 crore of the nearly 97 crore electors have voted so far in the ongoing electoral exercise.
  • 8: A joint security review meeting with a focus on counter-militancy operations in the Jammu region was held in view of the recent attacks on an IAF convoy in Poonch. General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Jammu-based 16 Corps (also known as White Knight Corps) Lt Gen Navin Sachdeva chaired the meeting which was attended by Additional Director General of Police, Jammu zone, Anand Jain and representatives of intelligence agencies, they said.
  • 9: In a significant development, the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) leader in Kashmir this week said that it was ready to contest polls if the Centre lifts the ban on it. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) imposed a ban on JeI in 2019 terming the organization as “anti-national”.
  • 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi filed his nomination from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat on Tuesday, an event attended by several NDA leaders including Union Ministers and Chief Ministers in a show of strength as he seeks a third term from the constituency.
  • 11: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have introduced an innovative AI-Based Facial Recognition System at Navyug Tunnel Qazigund to identify and track individuals involved in criminal activities, including history sheeters, drug peddlers, OGW, absconders, and members of banned organizations, among others.
  • 12: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level meeting to review the functioning of Home Department.The chair was briefed on security grid, establishment of Police Data Centre, modernisation of Forensic capacities and other projects under Security Related Expenditure (SRE).
