Sham Choudhary directs supplying water at fixed time for appropriate duration

Jammu:  Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary Wednesday reiterated the government’s resolve to provide adequate  drinking water supply to every household in Jammu.

Stressing on the need for augmenting water supply in Jammu, the Minister directed the engineers to take immediate steps for providing regular supply potable water to the people on fixed time for appropriate duration.

The Minister was speaking after inaugurating two tube wells at Paloura and New Plot constructed at the cost of Rs. 1.30 crore each by Economic Reconstruction Agency under Jammu City Water Supply Rehabilitation Program.

Member Parliament, Shamsher Singh Manhas was also present on the occasion.

The tube well at Bathing Ghat Paloura having a discharge capacity of 22,500 gallons per hour will augment the water supply by adding 4.50 lakh gallons per day to the existing supply of water in the area. The water supply scheme will benefit the people living in Paloura, Dhok Paloura, Buta Nagar, Neelsheel Vihar, Shiva Enclave, Pritam Nagar and other adjoining areas.

The other tube well constructed at PHE Station, New Plot has a discharge capacity of 15,000 gallons per hour and will augment water supply by adding 3 lakh gallons per day to the existing water supply in New Plot, Pritam Nagar, Sarwal, Laxmi Nagar, Subash Nagar, Rehari, Govt Quarters at Sarwal and Subash Nagar.

The Minister also gave a patient hearing to the grievances of the locals and directed the concerned Executive Engineer to personally monitor the water supply issues in Ward No. 38 and 39. He further asked the concerned to conduct regular inspections at PHE installations to ensure that the staff works properly in a transparent framework.

Meanwhile, MP Shamsher Singh Manhas said central government is providing all possible assistance to the state for development activities and special stress is being laid on streamlining of water and power supply.

He further asked the people to come forward and take maximum benefits of centrally sponsored schemes being run by the government for improving their living conditions.

Chief Engineer, PHE A.K Gandotra, Executive Engineers, AEEs and JEs were also present on the occasion.
