Srinagar : Chairman Peoples Democratic Front ( PDF) and former Minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen has welcomed the J&K Jamaat-
e-Islami’s (JeI’s) announcement to participate in the electoral process , if the government lifts ban on it . He said the announcement was a good omen for revival of peace and broad basing the democracy in Jammu and kashmir .
In a statement issued on Thursday Hakeem while terming the willingness of Amir Jamaat of benned Jamaat -e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir to participate in the electoral process as a good omn for peace and democracy .He urged the government to reciprocate the announcement in its good faith. “ In fact , jamaat-e Islami has in yesteryears also enthusiastically taken part in the electoral process in Jammu and Kashmir but the ugly episode of naked mass rigging in 1987 assembly election compelled the organisation to opt for election bycott”, Hakeem said, adding that “ better late than never . Government should reciprocate to the offer of Jamaat-e-Islami whole heartedly and lift ban imposed on it ,to pave way for its re- entery in the mainstream”. He said the banned organisation like other mainstream political parties , should be encouraged to contribute its role in socio -political and developmental era in a democratic and secular manner. PDF Chairman said willingness shown by the banned organisation to participate in electoral process was a big shift on the horizon of the mainstream politics in Jammu and Kashmir which needs to be encouraged and welcomed by all. He also sought release of all political detunes and youth lodged in various jails of the country to start a new era of peace ,prosperity and development.
