GDC Kishtwar organises Seminar on ‘Hazardous effect of Plastic Waste on Environment’

Kishtwar : Eco Club and NSS Unit of Government Degree College Kishtwar, in collaboration with the Pollution Control Committee, on Thursday hosted a seminar on the critical issue of hazardous effects of plastic waste on the environment and strategies to manage it, as part of the Mission Life: Life Style for Environment Programme.
The event featured esteemed keynote speakers, Dr. Mohan Snehi (Divisional Officer, Pollution Control Committee Kishtwar) and Dr. Ravi Sharma (Senior Manager Environment, Kiru Hydro Electric Project CVPP).
Dr. Snehi gave a comprehensive overview of plastic types, shared intriguing facts and delved into the significant problems and hazardous effects of plastic on the ecosystem.
Earlier, the seminar commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Sehrish Gazal, HOD Environmental Sciences.
Dr. Ravi Sharma highlighted the challenges posed by plastic and showcased his creative side by presenting his composition titled “Nanhi se Bacchi” on environmental pollution. His thought-provoking poetry resonated with the audience, prompting reflection on individual responsibilities towards environmental preservation.
The College Principal Prof. Basharat Iqbal commended the speakers for enlightening lectures and lauded the Committee for organizing an engaging and informative session crucial for the current environmental scenario. He stressed the significance of the role of an individual in protecting and safeguarding our environment.
Around 150 students actively participated in the seminar, gaining valuable insights.
The faculty members in attendance included Prof. N.K.Manhas, Dr. Yasar Ahmed, Prof. Ajeet Kumar, Dr. Jaideep Kumar, Dr. Tabassum Saleem, Dr. Waheed Hurra, Prof. Om Raj, Dr. Kulbhushan Kumar, and Prof. Tenzen Namkha.
The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Tabassum Saleem, underscoring the success of the event in fostering awareness about plastic waste management and environmental conservation.
