Dir inaugurates Inter- Departmental Cricket Tournament at NIT Srinagar

Srinagar: Director National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, Prof. A. RavinderNath inaugurated the Inter- Departmental Cricket Tournament (students) 2024. This event will feature the participation of 12 teams from different departments within the institute.
The inaugural function was presided over by Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. A. RavinderNath, while Institute’s Registrar, Prof. AtikurRahman was a Guest of Honour on the occasion.
Dr. Srinibash Mishra, SAS Coordinator was also present in the inaugural ceremony. The tournament is being organized by the Department of Physical Education NIT Srinagar.
The opening match on Saturday was between the Staff & Faculty Team and IT Department. After a thrilling match, the Staff & Faculty Team won the match by 75 runs.
In his key speech, Director NIT Srinagar,Prof. A. RavinderNath commended the Physical Education Department for their consistent efforts in organizing sporting events throughout the year.
He pledged his complete support for future endeavors in this regard. Emphasizing the importance of regular sports participation, he highlighted how it fosters skills in strategic planning and accountability for our actions.
In his message, Institute’s Registrar, Prof. AtikurRahman highlighted the benefits of sports and said that participation in sports activities promotes health and wellbeing.
“I appreciate all players who are taking active part in the tournament and in future, we will organize more such tournaments on the campus,” he said.
Prof. Rahman mentioned that NIT Srinagar has developed state-of-the-art sports facilities on campus over the past several years and will continue to expand them.
There are 12 teams in the tournament, and it will be played in a mix of league matches and knockout rounds. Teams include CED, CSE, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, MME, ECE, IT, Mechanical Engineering, PhD “A”, PhD “B”, PG “A”,PG “B”.
The 1st match in Pool “A” was played between MME & Mechanical Engineering. That was won by 36 runs by MED. The 2nd match in Pool “B” was played between Civil Engineering & CSE Department and it was won by CE by 63 runs. On Tuesday, match will be played between Electrical Engineering and PhD-B team in the Institute’s main ground.
