Legal Awareness Prog-cum-Spl LokAdalat held at Kathua

Rs 30,25,408 recovery amount realised, Rs. 26,97,035 awarded in MACT cases

Kathua: A legal awareness programme-cum-Special LokAdalat was held on Saturday in District Court Kathua under the supervision of Principal District and Sessions Judge, Ashok Kumar Shavan, who is also the Chairman of District Legal Service Authority (DLSA).
Lawyers, litigants and large number of people participated in the legal awareness programme.
The Chairman, District legal Service Authority threw light on the programme, which he said is part of calendar given by the High Court and JKLSA. He also discussed the benefits of Alternative Dispute Redressal (ADR) and various facets of holding LokAdalats.
“The ADR modes of settlement and LokAdalat prove much beneficial in the delivery of Justice, by facilitating speedy disposal of cases through mediation and reconciliation”, he added.
Three benches constituted for the Special LokAdalat took up MACT and Bank recovery cases.
The first bench was chaired by District and Sessions Judge, A.K Shavanalongwith Special Mobile Magistrate, Kathua, S.K Thapa,.
The second bench comprised Additional District and Sessions Judge, Kathua, KusoomPandita, and CJM Kathua, Swati Gupta. The third bench was attended by MunsiffBillawar, JyotiBhagat, along with Lawyer, J.S Bhadwal.
As many as 12 Civil bank cases and 21 MACT cases were taken up, resulting in the settlement of six civil bank recovery cases and five pre-litigation bank cases and recovery of Rs. 30,25,408. Additionally, Rs. 26,97,035 was awarded in MACT cases.
The litigants and advocates expressed satisfaction over the said LokAdalat. Advocates and PLVs also spoke on different DLSA schemes and the benefits of special LokAdalats.
The next LokAdalat will be held on May 11,-2024.
Notably, last year, 3461 cases, including Bank Recovery and MACT cases, were resolved by LokAdalats held on different dates, adhering to the specified calendar. Furthermore, beneficiaries received a total compensation amounting to Rs 19,25,03,573 during these LokAdalats.
