Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Sopore and Baramulla and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Sopore, a police party of Police Station Sopore headed by SHO Police Station Sopore under the supervision of SDPO Sopore Sarfaraz Bashir, at a checkpoint at Adipora Sopore, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK05H-6710 driven by Farooq Ahmad Mir S/o Abdul Rashid Mir R/o AdiporaSopore and during search recovered 2 kilograms of Poppy Straw like substance from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to Police Station Sopore where he remains in custody.
Stating that in Baramulla also a police party of Police Station Baramulla headed by SHO Police Station Uri at a checkpoint established at Garkote-Laghama, intercepted a suspect identified as Kabir Ali Manhas S/o Shafayat Ali Manhas R/o Paranpeelan Baramulla and during search, recovered 240 grams of contraband Charas like substances from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to Police Station Uri where he remains in custody, Police in its statement further said cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective Police Stations besides initiating further investigation.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and subsequently warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
