Srinagar : Krishi Vigyan Kendra Budgam SKUAST-K on Thursday organized FLD Distribution Programme of paddy (SR-4) for local farmers of District Budgam at their campus today. Nearly, 10Q seed of SR-4 was distributed among 75 farmers of different villages (Haripora Haran, Warapora, Bemina, Chatargham, Soibugh, Kawoosa etc.) covering an area of about 17 ha.
The Senior Scientist and Head KVK Budgam briefed the farmers about the role of KVKs for enhancing the income of the farmers through high yielding varieties of SKUAST K particularly SR-4 which is a high yielding variety released by SKUAST-K in 2017.
It is recommended for low lying plains due to its early maturing feature, cold-tolerance and resistance to Blast. This early maturing variety (135-140 days) with the yield potential of 8.5 to 9.0 t/ha gives promising returns to the farmers. Dr. Sabia Akhter (SMS, Agronomy) provided general awareness about the Package of Practices for SR-4. The Programme witnessed participation by scientists as well as supporting staff of the Kendra.
