5 drug peddlers held across valley, Contraband substances recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in Handwara, Awantipora and Kulgam district and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Handwara, a police party of Police station Kralgund headed by SHO Police Station Kralgund at a checkpoint established at Pandithpora Kralgund intercepted one Mohd Yaseen Malik S/o Bashir Ahmad Malik R/o Humpora Kralgun and during search recovered 45 grams of charas like substance from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Police in it’s statement further said that in a similar action in Awantipora, a police party of Police Station Awantipora at a checkpoint established at Y Junction Barsoo Awantipora arrested a drug peddler identified as Aijaz Ahmad Sultan S/o Sonnullah Sultan R/o Wanihama-Payeen Hazratbal Srinagar and during search recovered 18 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused who was shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that in Kulgam district also, a Police party led by Incharge Police Post Mirbazar during patrolling at Furrah near railway bridge intercepted two suspects identified as Sameer Ahmad Sheikh S/o Farooq Ahmad Sheikh R/o Bangi Dar Anantnag and Umer Ahmad Lone S/o Mohd Ramzan Lone R/o Hangir Yaripora who on noticing police party tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully by alert police party, the Police in it’s statement further said that during search, 13 grams of Brown Sugar like contraband substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused who were arrested and shifted to Police Station Qazigund where they remain in custody.
Police in its statement furthermore said a police party headed by Incharge Police Post Mirbazar at a checkpoint established at Mirbazar Chowk intercepted a one Aadil Ahmad Khan S/o Gull Mohd Khan R/o of Ashajipora A/P Bangi Dar Anantnag and during search recovered 5 grams of Brown Sugar like contraband substance from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police besides initiating further investigations , Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement urged people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society and also reiterated its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
