Srinagar: With the onset of winter, the summer capital, Srinagar, and Leh in Ladakh region recorded the coldest nights of the season so far after the mercury dipped and settled at 2.6 degree and minus 5.2 degree, respectively.
A Met department spokesperson here this afternoon told UNI that weather will remain mainly dry in all three regions of the state — Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh — during the next 24 hours.
The temperature at Leh dipped about three degree from yesterday and settled at minus 5.2 degree, recording the coldest night of the season so far.
However, there was a marginal improvement in the night temperature at border town of Kargil, where mercury surged and settled at 2 degree, against 1.8 degree recorded yesterday.
He said the sky will be mainly clear during the next 24 hours in Leh, where maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 15 degree and minus 5 degree, respectively.
After witnessing the coldest night of the season so far at 2.6 degree, people in summer capital, Srinagar, woke up to a chill morning. But, as the day progressed the temperature witnessed some improvement due to sunshine. Against 3.3 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature in Srinagar was 2.6 degree, which is over a degree below normal.
The spokesperson said the sky will be mainly clear during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 24 degree and 2 degree, respectively.
The mercury at border town of Kupwara also dipped and settled at 1.6 degree, against 2 degree recorded yesterday while the night temperature at Qazigund, gateway to Kashmir, remained constant at 2 degree.
However, the night temperature at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, witnessed an improvement of a degree and settled at 3 degree.
After world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, recorded sub-zero temperature yesterday, the mercury during the night surged and settled at 1.2 degree.
