Samba : NSS Unit (KHIDMAT) of Government Degree College Vijaypur organized ‘Group Discussion’ to mark Women’s Day Celebration held under the supervision and guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Vandana Gupta, Principal of the College.
As many as one hundred college students and NSS volunteers participated in the group discussion with great enthusiasm, fervour and zeal. The aim of organizing discussion was to educate students about the empowerment and autonomy of women and the improvement of their political, social, economic and health statusand their right to influence social change for themselves and others.
The discussion started with the welcome address by Prof. Mamta Gupta (HOD Commerce). She briefed the students that women’s empowerment can be defined to promoting women’s sense of self-worth, their ability to determine their own choices and their right to influence social change for themselves and others. Women’s empowerment and promoting women’s rights have emerged as a part of a major global movement and is continuing to break new ground in recent years. Days like International Women’s Empowerment Day are also gaining momentum. But despite a great deal of progress, women and girls continue to face discrimination and violence in every part of the world.
The event was coordinated by Prof. Anita Jamwal, Prof. Mamta Gupta, Prof. Poonam Kundan and Dr. Naseem Chowdhary and co-ordinated by Dr. Priyanka Ganjoo, Dr. Radhika Rasyal, Dr. Gunjeet Mahiwal, Dr. Tisha Singh, Prof. Sonia Devi, Dr. Neelam Kumari and Prof. Renuka Kundal.
