Cyclothon, lectures, Felicitations mark Int’l Women’s Day 2024 Celebration at Kishtwar

Kishtwar: The District Administration Kishtwar, in collaboration with the District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) and other stakeholders on Wednesday organised a series of impactful events to observe the International Women’s Day 2024.
Under the theme “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” the celebration emphasized gender equality, women’s empowerment, and the fundamental right to healthier lives.
The festivities commenced with the inauguration of a Cyclothon by the Deputy Commissioner, Dr.DevanshYadav at the Main Bus Stand.
District Social Welfare Officer Tariq ParvezQazi, DYSSO, JaffarHussain, staff of the social welfare department and District Youth Services and Sports Department was present on the occasion.
Over 40 cyclists, representing diverse age groups and women, pedalled through the main market, promoting the spirit of unity and health for empowerment of women folk.
The culminating point of the Cyclothon was at TRC Kishtwar, leading to the main function at Picture Time Theatre.
The DSWO welcomed the participants, setting the stage for an inspiring event.
Esteemed guests included ADC, PawanKotwal, and Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mahmud Anwar Alnasir.
Students from GDC Kishtwar and local schools delivered speeches aligned with the International Women’s Day theme, reflecting on the importance of women’s rights and empowerment.
Beneficiaries of the NRLM group shared their success stories, demonstrating the positive impact of collaborative efforts in women’s development. A survivor of domestic violence courageously shared her journey, underscoring the vital role played by the One Stop Centre in providing legal aid and rehabilitation.
The Members of DLSA shed light on the legal support extended to women, emphasizing the crucial role played by legal frameworks in safeguarding their rights.
CJM Kishtwar and ADC Kishtwar addressed the participants, providing valuable insights into the significance of International Women’s Day and highlighting the various supports available to victims of destitution and domestic violence. The theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” was reiterated as a powerful tool for societal development.
The program concluded with a felicitation of Women achievers besides recognizing the talents of participants in a painting competition organized by DLSA and the Social Welfare Department. Awards were bestowed upon deserving individuals, acknowledging their contributions.
The success of the event was attributed to the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including the Social Welfare Department, DLSA, Mission Vatsalya staff, One Stop Centre-DHEW, the Education Department, Police Department, NCC and NSS units of GDC Kishtwar, ASHAs, AWW, Special Women Police Cell, and representatives from the Women Development Corporation, and the Information Department.
The International Women’s Day celebration in Kishtwar served as a testament to the collective commitment towards fostering gender equality, empowering women, and creating a society where every woman’s rights are respected and protected.
