Training prog for farmers on Sustainable Agriculture inaugurated

Jammu: Farmers Training program under Mission on Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) on Sustainable Agriculture Cropping System was inaugurated Tuesday by Director Agriculture, Jammu, H. K. Razdan.

Nearly, 50 farmers including women farmers from Ramban and Udhampur districts participated in the training and feedback sessions of the program.

The participants were educated about several issues like round the year cultivation of mushrooms, improved vegetables production technology, insect pest and disease management, Flower cultivation, doubling of farmers income.

Aman Jyoti, SMS-III, Department of Agriculture,  Dr Uma Shanker, Dr Anil Bhushan Scientists from SKUAST-J were the key resource persons.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Director said MIDH- a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) envisages increase in agriculture production on a sustainable basis with focus on vegetable crops, apiculture, mushroom cultivation and other horticulture crops besides efficient utilization of various resources like soil, water, fertilizers, inputs, machinery etc. optimally and judiciously.

He impressed upon the trainees to adopt the concept of area expansion through crop diversification, increase of Seed Replacement Rate (SRR), mechanization, use of sprinkler & drip irrigation systems, transfer of technology and precision farming on a mission mode. He stressed upon the need for adoption of various water conservation techniques particularly in the un-irrigated Kandi belt where water is scarce to grow various crops.

He also distributed improved Farm Implement Kits among the farmers on the occasion.

Lakhanpuria, Deputy Director of Agriculture (Trainings) Sunil Koul, Deputy Director of Agriculture (Central), Jammu, C. M. Sharma, Agriculture Economist, S. K. Kapahi, Sarmesh Ghasi, Training Officer, Ravinder Thaploo, Agriculture Information Officer, J. C. Raina, Program Officer besides other officers were present in the program.
