Jammu: Member Administration J&K Cricket Association Brigadier (Retd) Anil Gupta, on Saturday lauded Abdul Samad’s match-saving century, emphasizing that the young cricketer’s performance exemplifies temporary form but permanent class. Gupta also commended the bowlers for limiting Madhya Pradesh to 200 in the first innings.
Earlier, Abdul Samad, the middle-order batsman for Sunrisers Hyderabad, showcased his prowess with a remarkable century in the Ranji Trophy clash against Madhya Pradesh. Stepping in at a challenging 61/5 situation for Jammu & Kashmir, Samad’s aggressive approach not only steered his team out of trouble but also secured a crucial first-innings lead.
Facing a formidable bowling lineup from Madhya Pradesh, including international player Avesh Khan and promising talents like Saransh Jain and Kulwant Khejroliya, Samad’s century attests to his exceptional skill. Known for his powerful hitting, the right-hander struck a sensational 103 off just 74 deliveries, comprising 6 fours and 6 sixes.
Samad’s quick-paced century, achieved in just 71 balls, played a pivotal role as Jammu & Kashmir posted a total of 242, establishing a valuable 42-run lead over Madhya Pradesh. This stellar performance adds to Samad’s impactful innings during the current Ranji Trophy season, where he previously played a crucial role in securing victory against Odisha.
His consistency and remarkable contributions have also earned him a spot in Sunrisers Hyderabad for IPL 2024. While his IPL track record showcases 395 runs in 34 matches at a strike rate of 137.63, Samad aims to elevate his average of 19.75 in the upcoming season.
