Indian Red Cross Society, J&K organizes series of activities in Jammu

Jammu : Indian Red Cross Society, JK is a prominent and reputable organization that carries out a wide range of initiatives and activities to support the different sections of the society under the leadership of Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha (President, IRCS, JK) and supervision of Rohit Khajuria, General Secretary, IRCS, MK.
A drug De-Addiction Awareness Programme, in collaboration with Office of the Excise Commissioner, Jammu, was on Thursday held at “Govt. Gandhi Memorial Science College, Jammu. The camp was inaugurated by Prof. Rajesh Kumar Gupta, Principal in presence of Dr. Vandana Khajuria, Vice Principal, GGM Science College, Dr. Aasia Noor, Medical Officer and Kanchan Devi, Sup. Pharmacist IRCS, J&K.
The main aim behind the programme was to discourage the use of drugs among the youth and inspire students to utilize their energies and other resources for social development. IRCS is planning to organize extensive programs to curb this menace.
During the session, Kanchan Devi educated the students about the ill effects of drug addiction while outlining the present scenario of substance abuse, its impact on physical and mental health, and avenues for seeking help. Through this interactive session, students gained insights into the physiological, psychological, and legal implications of drug use.
Besides this, a first-Aid awareness session was also organized for the students in which the main focus was on the life saving event i.e. Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Overall, initiatives like the one organized by the Indian Red Cross Society, J&K-J&K is vital for creating a healthier and more supportive society, especially in areas facing socio-economic challenges.
The camp was coordinated by Vironica Marwah, Field Officer, IRCS, J&K-J&K.
Further, Indian Red Cross Society, J&K in collaboration with the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Jammu organized a First-Aid awareness programme for the commercial vehicle drivers at Warehouse, Jammu. This initiative was launched on the occasion of Road Safety Month, with the aim of equipping drivers with essential first aid skills to respond effectively to emergencies on the road.
Road accidents can happen unexpectedly, and the immediate response of individuals at the scene can often make a significant difference in saving lives. The partnership between IRCS and RTO seeks to empower drivers with the knowledge and skills needed to provide timely and effective first aid until professional help arrives.
The team of Red Cross includes Dr. Kavita Nijhon, Medical Officer and Smt. Kanchan Devi, Sup. Pharmacist imparted the awareness and covered topics like basic first aid techniques such as CPR, wound care, and handling emergencies.
Similarly an eight day First-Aid training programme w.e.f 5th to 14th Feb, 2024 was organized for the Commercial Vehicle drivers and the youth of the society at Red Cross Bhawan, Kachi Chawni, Jammu. During the 8 day training, different topics were covered like various techniques of Disaster Management during Earthquakes, Fires, Floods, First-Aid Kit, wounds, bandages, types of fractures, bleeding emergencies, burns etc. Emergency technique of handling bleeding patients, Fracture/accident victims was also emphasized. Highlights of the programme were how to resuscitate a patient of fainting and Cardiac Arrest. Emphasis was laid on the Management of injuries, fracture, burns, control of bleeding, practical demonstrations of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and Choking.
The practical and theoretical lectures were laid by Dr. Kavita Nijhon Verma & Dr. Asia Noor, Medical Officers assisted by Kanchan Devi, & Ravi Kant Magotra, Sup. Pharmacists, Naziya Banoo, FMPHW and Joginder Kumar, Pharmacist, IRCS, Jammu.
During the last day of session, Rohit Khajuria, General Secretary, IRCS J&K interacted with all the participants and issued Provisional certificates to them. The training went quite fruitful and ended on a good note.
