Gulmarg: The Department of Tourism Kashmir in collaboration with Gulmarg Development Authority Wednesday organised day-long caddies golf tournament at picturesque Gulmarg Golf Course.

Thirty-five caddies from Gulmarg participated in the tournament which was teed off in presence of Deputy Director Tourism, Riyaz Beigh and Assistant Director Tourism Gulmarg, Dr. Ilyas Ahmad.

The aim of tournament was to project Gulmarg as the prime golfing destination in Kashmir Valley.

Later, CEO Gulmarg Development Authority, Mohammad Hanief Balkhi awarded mementoes to the winners and the participants of the tournament. He said the Department is also planning to organise more tournaments at Gulmarg to promote the sport.

Established in the early days of the British rule by Sir Neville Chamberlain, K.C.B, the Gulmarg Golf Club has attracted golfers for almost a century. A lush green bowl covered with a variety of alpine flowers and crisscrossed by snow-fed streams and rivulets; gently undulating slopes carpeted with a natural mossy turf, and a crisply cool bracing weather.

Redesigned by the famous golf architect, Peter Thompson, Gulmarg now has 6,760 yards, par 72, 18-hole golf course.
