Srinagar: Pahalgam, a picturesque place in South Kashmir has recorded all-time highest day temperature in the month of January at 14.1 degree Celsius Monday while the other parts of the valley continued to record above normal temperature amidst the persistent dry spell in the region.
Officials said that all the stations across Kashmir have recorded above normal temperature Monday. Pahlagam, however, has surpassed all the previous records, Director Meteorological department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said, adding that the previous all-time highest maximum temperature in the month of January was recorded on 14 January, 2018 at 13.8 degree Celsius.
In Srinagar, a maximum temperature of 13.2 degree Celsius was recorded. The summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir also recorded the sixth highest day temperature in January a few days ago at 15.0 degree Celsius.
Similarly, Qazigund, the gateway of Kashmir has recorded a maximum temperature of 14.0 degree Celsius while in Kokernag, it settled at 11.4 degree Celsius.
The MeT data further adds that Kupwara in north Kashmir was hottest in the valley Monday at 14.5 degree Celsius while Gulmarg recorded a maximum temperature of 9.0 degree Celsius.
However, compared to day temperature, Pahalgam was the coldest place in the valley at night as the mercury settled at minus 5.3 degree Celsius at the famous tourist place.
Srinagar however, shivered at minus 4.3 degree Celsius while Qazigund and Kupwara recorded a low of minus 4.2 degree Celsius and 4.1 degree Celsius respectively.
In Gulmarg, the mercury settled at minus 2.8 degree Celsius while Kokernag recorded a low of minus 2.0 degree Celsius.
Moreover, the Director Meteorological department (MeT) shared a detailed forecast, predicting dry weather conditions till 24th Jan with feeble WDs approaching on 16th and 20th evening.
“Under the influence of these WDs, generally cloudy weather with light rain, snow over isolated middle and higher reaches is expected during 16th and 20th night,” he said, adding that overall, no significant weather activity is expected till 24th January.
During January 25-27, there is a possibility of light rain, snow at scattered places during 25th to 27th as per indications of different models, he said, adding that the forecast in this regard will be updated in coming days.
Meanwhile, he added that dense fog with cold day conditions likely to continue till 16th January over plains of Jammu division
