Shopian: Police on Friday that it has arrested a drug peddler in South Kashmir’s Shopian district and also seized 748 grams of brown sugar from the possession of the said accused.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a drug peddler identified as Showkat Ahmad Naikoo S/O Ab Jabbar Naikoo R/O Saidpora Bala Shopian, was intercepted while driving a THAR vehicle bearing Registration No HP52D 555 and following his thorough personal search a substantial amount of a brown sugar-like contraband substance, weighing approximately 748 grams concealed in a polythene bag was recovered from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and is currently in police custody, adding therein that the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was confiscated.
Stating that a case was registered at Police Station Shopian vide FIR No. 11/2024 under relevant sections of the law, Police in it’s statement further said that the investigation into the case was also initiated to ascertain the full extent of the illegal activities.
Appealing people to report drug peddling and other criminal activities at the nearest police establishment or dial 112, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement asked people to Cooperate with it to eliminate the scourge of drug menace from the society , reiterating therein that stringent actions shall be taken against criminals, in strict adherence to the law.
