Kishtwar: Today marks a historic and prideful moment for District Kishtwar as Sheetal a resilient and determined resident from the humble hamlet of Lohi Dhar, Block Mughal Maidan, has been honored with the Arjuna Award 2023 for her exceptional achievements in Para Archery on Tuesday.
This monumental feat not only brought immense pride to her family and district but also resonates as a source of honor for the entire Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the nation at large.
Despite being born with congenital disability, without arms, 16-year-old Sheetal Devi has inscribed her name in the annals of archery history for the district and Jammu and Kashmir. Her unwavering determination, particularly stemming from a modest background, led her to overcome numerous obstacles on her journey to this prestigious award.
Her accolades include three gold medals and one silver medal achieved at the 4th Para Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, in 2023. Additionally, she secured a silver medal in the World Para Archery Championship held in Pilsen, Czech Republic, also in 2023.
The people of Jammu and Kashmir, alongside her native district witnessed this honoring ceremony of her receipt of the Arjuna Award, here from Rashtrapati.
Following the announcement of awards, the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had greeted her in his post on ‘X’ (formerly called Twitter) and described it as a proud moment for J&K.
Earlier this year, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has also honored the ace Para Archer Sheetal Devi at Raj Bhawan with Certificate of Excellence.
SDM Chatroo Shokat Hayat Mattoo, accompanied by Tehsildar Mughal Maidan on behalf of the District Administration Kishtwar, representing Deputy Commissioner Dr Devansh on Wednesday visited her home, extending heartfelt felicitations for her outstanding achievements in a simple yet heartfelt ceremony.
Dr Devansh Yadav, Deputy Commissioner, in his message conveyed his warmest congratulations and best wishes, expressing hope for further accolades in her future endeavors and journey.
