Jammu : District Development Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya on Tuesday chaired a comprehensive meeting to review the progress and ongoing works of the Cooperatives Department in the district.
Chief Planning Officer Uttam Singh, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Piyush Dhotra, Assistant Commissioner Development Preeti Sharma, AD Fisheries Munish Kumar, Chief Agriculture Officer and several other district officers were present in the meeting.
Deputy Registrar, Cooperatives Societies (Agri) Jammu, Bhumika Sharma, presented a detailed agenda, highlighting key achievements and upcoming initiatives.
Land identification for building grain storage facilities emerged as a critical discussion point. Three potential sites shortlisted for the project were examined, with a focus on establishing robust coordination with the Food Corporation of India and the Agriculture Department.
Ensuring fair price shop allocation to cooperative societies and expediting the establishment of Jan Aushadhi Kendras through Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) were also prioritised. Notably, the meeting emphasised achieving the targeted number of Kendras across the district.
The DDC, actively engaging in the deliberations, pledged the district administration’s unwavering support in formalising and promoting Farmer Producer Organisations in all blocks. He urged concerned officers to proactively identify and assist in the formulation of FPOs, encompassing a diverse range of agricultural products. The DDC expressed immense confidence in the immense potential of PACS and vowed to make extraordinary strides in strengthening the network within the district.
“Cooperatives are poised to play a pivotal role in the nation’s progress,” the DDC asserted, underlining their significance.
A compendium for the year 2023 highlighting the achievements of the Cooperatives Department, with success stories of best cooperatives, was also presented to the DDC on the occasion.
