SKUAST-K holds Week long Commercial vegetable production Prog

Srinagar: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) conducted one week entrepreneurship and skill development training programme on “Commercial vegetable production and marketing” at Qazibagh, Budgam under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Micro, Medium and Small Enterprises under its Existing-MDP Scheme.
The programme organized by Division of Vegetable Science, Faculty of Horticulture, was designed with an aim to inculcate technical and managerial skills among the budding entrepreneurs for grooming their start up ideas. The training programme was imparted to educated unemployed youth from weaker sections of the society.
The training was based on expert lectures by scientists of various divisions and other faculties of SKUAST-Kashmir.
During the training, participants gained holistic knowledge regarding the commercial vegetable cultivation and marketing covering all the major aspects of the production. Exposure visits, practical demonstrations and hands-on training were also carried during the training programme. Participants had the chance to connect with professionals, mentors, and potential collaborators, fostering a supportive community within the agricultural sector.
Program coordinator Dr Shahnaz Mufti, Associate Professor, Division of Vegetable Science SKUAST-K said that this initiative is designed to equip aspiring entrepreneurs and agricultural enthusiasts with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the competitive landscape of vegetable farming and marketing.
The Program coordinator acknowledged the efforts and support of Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganiae, Nodal officer MSME, Prof. H.R.Naik and Dean Faculty of Horticulture Prof. Shabir Hussain Wani. The Programme Coordinator thanked the sponsoring agency, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Govt. of India, New Delhi for sponsoring such programmes for the larger benefit of the farming community.
