Srinagar : To commemorate 136th Birth Anniversary of great mathematician Srinavasa Ramanujun, Faculty of Agriculture, SKUAST-K, Wadura on Friday organized a one Day National Conference on “Mathematics For All”. The event was organized to popularize the use of Mathematics in everyday life, research and sensitize the public as to how Mathematics helps in shaping and framing policies. The event was facilitated by Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Head, Division of Agri Economics & Statistics, FoA, SKUAST-K.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office SKUAST-K here, Professor Raihana Habib Kant, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, SKUAST-K formally inaugurated the conference and Dr. Fahim J. Wani presented the welcome address.
In his welcome address he thanked all participants for taking part in the conference.
While attracting the participants, a documentary on life of Ramanujan was presented before the audience. Besides, the organizer, Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat (Head, Division of Agri Economics & Statistics, FoA) announced the theme of the conference and discussed in brief the Role of Mathematics in practical life. In his speech Dr. Bilal Ahmad said, ‘every year on December 22, India celebrates National Mathematics Day to mark the birth anniversary of Ramanujan’.
“In 2012, then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declared the date as National Mathematics Day to honour this great man and the purpose of celebrating this day is to raise awareness about the importance of Mathematics in daily lives, and how Mathematics plays a leading role not only as a subject but as a development factor in an individual’s daily life.” he said.
“From the ancient times people used this Mathematical language in many aspects while building a pyramid, or house even today’s Modern buildings to solve or research about a scientific element or finding any theory, mathematics is used everywhere. Besides, the main objective behind the celebration is to raise awareness among people about the importance of mathematics for the development of humanity. So, we decided to organize this National Conference on this day.” Dr. Bhat added.
While concluding his address, he said, “Dear God, May we, through your blessings, add purity to the world, subtract evil from our lives, multiply your good news and divide your gifts and share them with others”
In the first technical session, there were four guest speakers. Professor (Dr.) Aquil Ahmad, Chairman, Department of Statistics & O.R., AMU, Aligarh presented key note address. In his speech, he discussed the applications of Mathematics in different fields. Professor (Dr.) Rashmi Bhardwaj in her address discussed in detail about the latest developments in mathematics. Dr. G.A. Qureshi, former DDG in his address as special guest discussed the life and contribution of great mathematician Ramanujan. Professor (Dr.) Bashir Ahmad Ganai, Director North Campus, University of Kashmir in his speech as guest of honour discussed the application of mathematical tools in biology. Besides, Professor (Dr.) Raihana Habib, Dean, FoA in her address as chief guest on occasion discussed the application of Mathematics in agriculture as well as in daily life to create interest towards mathematics among students working in different fields. Former principal Mr. Rashid also delivered lecture on importance of mathematics.
Besides in the conference, more than 150 students/researchers/teachers participated across the country and 20 scholars presented their papers via oral/poster form. However, number of researchers/teachers were also present via online mode and shared their knowledge. Professor Rahul Gupta, Professor Parmil Kumar, Professor Manish Kumar Sharma, Mr. Altaf Husain Haji, Dr Anupam Deka etc despite their busy schedule joined via online. At the conclusion of the event, Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, thanked Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-K, Dean, FoA, NAHEP, Scientists/Scholars/Dean/Directors for their support and the audience. The organizing team especially Dr Showkat Maqbool, Mr. S.H.Sidiquee, Dr. Fahim J. Wani, Dr Farheen, Principals of various H/S institutes, students of various schools, colleges, volunteers Mr Umer, Ms Samreen, Mr. Inam were also acknowledged. The organizer also prayed for those dear ones who used to be around but is no more with us physically and also thanked press and electronic media especially Mr. Shafkat Bukhari, Editor Kashmir Horizon, Mr Shakir and others covering the event. On this occasion, the participants thanked organisers for organizing this very successful conference besides lauding the efforts of the organizers for making the event a grand success. The session was formally closed with Dr. Sajad A. Saraf Vote of thanks.
