Militancy no more glorified in J&K: ADG CRPF

Srinagar : Militancy is no longer glorified in Jammu and Kashmir; it has become a “dirty” word now, ADG CRPF Nalin Prabhat said on Monday.
“Militancy is no longer fashionable in J&K and has become a dirty word; that is why militants are being eliminated,” Prabhat said while talking to reporters on the sidelines of the Sqay Martial Art Championship at Imamsahib Shopian.
He said that security forces have employed advanced technology to eradicate militancy in Jammu & Kashmir. “Militants or their commanders can never be icons while the sportspersons showcasing their talent at various stages are the real icons,” the ADG CRPF asserted. “The real icons are the dedicated youth excelling as sports professionals, doctors and engineers.”
He hailed the transformation of Shopian, once considered a hotbed of militancy, into a district producing accomplished athletes who win medals at national and international levels.
He said sports activities in Shopian are gaining popularity and can contribute significantly to combating the issues of drug menace and militancy.
When questioned about the number of active militants in the district, he said there are two or more, adding that those who choose the path of violence will be swiftly dealt with.
“The day any youth joins militancy, he signs the death warrant,” the ADG said, adding that every available tool and technology is being utilised to eradicate militancy in J&K.
The Sqay Martial Arts Tournament, organised by CRPF 178 battalion in collaboration with Sqay Martial Association Shopian, concluded successfully at Imamsahib here. The event witnessed the participation of martial arts players displaying exceptional skill and determination.
IG CRPF Gyanendra Verma, DIG CRPF Alok Awasthy, and SSP Shopian Tanushree were also present on the occasion. The tournament concluded with the distribution of prizes among the winners, runners-up, and all participants
