Srinagar/Oct, 11 : Two militants and equal number of army men were Wednesday killed in a fiercely fought gunfight in a village in Hajin area of Bandipora district .Four army men were also reported injured in the exchange of fire between the militants and the government forces.
A senior police officer said on receiving inputs about the presence of LeT militants in the area,the army’s 13 RR and SOG late Tuesday night launched cordon-and-search in Rakh-e- Hajin village of Bandipora district.
“As such the joint team of forces intensified the searches on wee hours, the hiding militants opened fire triggering off a fierce gunfight between the two sides”, the officer said.
In the ongoing encounter so far two militants have been killed and their identity are being ascertained, the officer said.He said that six soldiers also sustained serious bullet wounds and have been immediately evacuated to military hospital for treatment.
However, two among the six soldiers declared brought dead by the doctors on arrival, the officer said. When reports last came in the search operation was continuing in the area.
