SP College, District Election Office Srinagar organise Mega Awareness Prog under SVEEP

Srinagar: Sri Pratap College, Srinagar in collaboration with District Election Office, Srinagar on Tuesday organised a mega awareness programme under Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) for special summary revision of electoral rolls, 2023.
The co-ordinator of the program Dr. Shazia Mushtaq in her introduction to the program highlighted the importance of the electoral process in shaping the future of the nation.
Principal SP College Prof. (Dr.) Ghulam Jeelani Qurashi in his welcome address underlined the importance of voter registration and voting for establishing a vibrant and truly peoples’ democracy where there is accountability and transparency. The Principal further emphasized that voting is the basic building block of a successful democratic setup.
Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Reshi, in-charge SVEEP programme, in his address explained the importance of voter registration and how young voters can make a difference in the policy making and governance.
Dr. Mehar Rather, IT expert from the District Election Office, Srinagar gave an on-stage demonstration of the voter registration process by using the Voter Helpline App. She guided the students for on spot registration by explaining every step-in detail.
Shazaib Parvaiz, a student of the college, gave a powerpoint presentation on the importance of the electoral process. To make the day long awareness a celebration of the democratic ethos, students of the college presented different cultural programmes. A skit on the electoral process was performed by a group of students led by Hareem Farooq and Sheikh Shahid. High quality singing programmes were performed by Rizwan and his team and Raina Naqee and Farukh Nihad.
An eloquent ghazal was presented by Dr. Najam Bhat, faculty member of the college.
Dr. Mohammad Saleem, DMO Srinagar, also attended the proceeding of the programme. A signature campaign in support of voter registration was a special highlight of the day-long programme.
