DC Srinagar conducts whirlwind tour of the City, inspects progress of major developmental projects

Over 80 % works completed on Flyover at Bemina Junction, 65 % works on Nowgam flyover and 25% on Sanant Nagar flyover

DC also takes stock of works taken up for establishment of “Srinagar Export Hub” at Kashmir Haat

Srinagar : The Deputy Commissioner(DC), Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad Saturday undertook a whirlwind tour of the City to inspect and oversee the progress of works being carried out on several major developmental projects in different areas of the City.
The Deputy Commissioner accompanied by the Officers of the line Departments inspected ongoing works on construction of flyovers on NH-44 (Jammu-Srinagar highway) at Nowgam, Sanat Nagar, Bemina Junctions and Grade separator at Lasjan.
The DC also took onsite appraisal of ongoing works on construction of Noor Jehan Bridge being constructed over River Jhelum at Qamarwari at an estimated cost of Rs 15.86 crore, besides works on for establishment of Srinagar Export Hub at Kashmir Haat.
At Bemina bypass, the DC inspected the pace and progress of ongoing work on construction of flyover at the busy junction of Bemina crossing being executed at a cost of Rs 31.49 crore by PWD.
The DC was informed that over 80 percent of works have been completed with an expenditure of Rs 22.80 crore and works on approach road from Parimpora stretch is in its final stage.
On the occasion, the DC directed the concerned executing agency to accelerate the pace of work and complete the prestigious project in the set timeline of April 2024.
While reviewing the ongoing work on 0.85 km span flyover at Nowgam crossing, being carried out at a cost of Rs 36.90 crore for which completion timeline has already been set to April 2024 as per terms of the contract.
The DC was apprised that over 65 percent of work has been completed and remaining work is being executed on accelerated pace.
Similarly, the DC also inspected the construction site of Rs 29.52 crore project of Sanat Nagar Flyover. The DC was informed that about 25 percent of the project work stands completed with the expenditure of Rs 5.25 crore.
On the occasion, the DC stressed the officers to expedite the process of utility shifting and pavement for service road, besides speeding up the pace of work by employing more men and machinery to ensure time bound commissioning of the project.
At Lasjan, the Deputy Commissioner took onsite appraisal of the ongoing works on nearing completion 560-meter span Flyover/Grade Separator being executed by NHAI at an estimated cost of Rs. 70 crore.
On the occasion, the DC was informed by Project Manager NHAI that over 95 percent of the work on the project has been completed and remaining finishing works on landscaping and beautification along medians is going on in full swing.
The DC directed the concerned executing agency to complete the remaining landscaping works at the earliest and hoped that by commissioning of the project movement of traffic would be improved on the corridor of Nation Highway.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner also took onsite appraisal of works on Noor Jehan Bridge being constructed by R&B over River Jhelum at Qamarwari at an estimated cost of Rs 15.86 crore.
At the site, the DC took a round of the bridge on which over 75 percent work has been completed. The DC asked concerned Officers to expedite the works and finish balance works under the set deadline. The DC said by completion of this project decade old demand will be fulfilled and will also bring considerable change in the movement of traffic flow.
Likewise, the DC also inspected the progress of work on construction of the Employment and counselling centre at Bemina being carried out at a cost of Rs 10.30 crore, the DC was informed that 80 percent work on the project has been completed including roofing and brick work of 2nd floor.
Later, while inspecting the progress of work being executed on Rs 7.42 crore project for the construction of the second span of the Tankipora bridge adjacent to the DC Office Complex, Srinagar, the Deputy Commissioner was apprised that over 90 percent of work on the bridge has been completed so far and work is going on in full swing and shall be completed in stipulated time.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner visited the proposed “Srinagar Export Hub” under the ODOP- DEH initiative being established at Kashmir Haat with an aim to boost the Export of Goods from Srinagar District with adequate market linkage to the Industry, provide guidance regarding exports, consultancy, IT solutions, data management etc under one umbrella.
During the visit, the DC was accompanied by Chief Planning Officer, GM Manger Trade Promotion Organization, AD Exports, AD Handicrafts, Functional Manager DIC, AEE R&B, Officers from JKTPO and other concerned.
During the visit, the DC took a detailed tour of various compartments of the proposed District Export Hub and inspected the works done by R&B Department. He also took stock of the facilities and the works required to be taken for making it fully operational on the State of the Art pattern.
On the occasion, the DC asked to formulate a comprehensive DPR by incorporating all necessary requirements so that upgradation work is started at the earliest for setting up of Srinagar Export Hub, an initiative aimed to give a fillip to the Export volume and to boost the local Economy. He said the facility will also address the challenges for exports of identified products/services, improving supply chains, market accessibility and handholding of local Artisans for increasing exports.
