First trial of Cordycep Mushroom (Cordycepmilitaris) successfully conducted at Spawn Production Laboratory Jammu

Jammu : Spawn Production Lab Jammu achieved another milestone by successfully conducting trial of cordycep medicinal mushroom. The journey commenced with meticulous planning and dedication of the entire Spawn Production Lab staff.
The Director Agriculture Production & FW Jammu on Friday launched the picking/harvesting of the first trial of cordycep at the lab.
Speaking on the occasion the Director Agriculture, Jammu said that cordycep mushroom is a highly valued mushroom with market price varying from Rs.20,000/- to 2 lakh per kg depending upon cordycepin content. The mushroom has anti-ageing, antitumor, anti-diabetic and immunomodulating properties. The mushroom is a super energy food promoting vitality and endurance. The cultivation of this mushroom will be promoted in Jammu province in the coming year and this will play a pivotal role in agriculture diversification and promoting the socio-economic condition of the farmers.
The Director Agriculture, Jammu also visited Shiitake cultivation Lab at Spawn Production Lab and inspected the Shiitake crop. The successful trial of this mushroom was completed in the previous year and from the previous month steps are being taken to promote the cultivation of this mushroom in the entire Jammu region on a large scale. In this regard, training of progressive mushroom growers/Officers/Officials was conducted and 1000 shiitake mushroom blocks were provided to DCTC/mushroom growers free of cost in all districts of Jammu province.
The promotion of cultivation of both of these mushrooms will prove as a game changer in transforming the agriculture landscape and also help in raising the socio –economic status of the farmers of the Jammu province.
Present on the occasion were Joint Director of Agriculture (Extension) Jammu, Joint Director of Agriculture (Inputs) Jammu, Joint Director SLUB, Liaison Officer Apiculture & Mushroom Development Scheme Jammu, Spawn Production Officer Jammu, Spawn Production Assistant.
