The objective of the orientation programme was to ensure successful implementation of JKSOS in J&K and its maximum outreach at every nook and corner especially at Shopian in Kashmir.
The program aimed at bringing the Head of the Institutions (both Govt and Private) and School Management Development Committee members abreast of the features of the JKSOS, which has immense potential to provide opportunity to students/ dropouts/ failures/ non-formal school dropouts/ never enrolled/ unemployed/ partly employed adults/ SC/ STs and disadvantaged groups to complete their Secondary and Senior Secondary education by enrolling themselves in JKSOS as per the recommendations and guidelines of NEP-2020.
Various strategies were discussed for spreading awareness about the J&K State Open School, a subsidiary of J&K Board of School Education. JKSOS has recently announced maiden admissions in class 12th; earlier only class 10th was being offered.
Prof. (Dr.) Parikshat Singh Manhas, Chairman, JKBOSE in his message conveyed that the mission taken by JKBOSE to initiate Open Schooling System for Secondary and Senior Secondary education will augment opportunities for further education, democratize education and make it a lifelong process thereby helping tens of thousands of students/ unemployed youth/ adults etc. who have dropped out of the formal system or those who cannot attend a regular institutions.
ManishaSarin, Secretary JKBOSE also applauded the efforts of the team for effectively rolling out sensitization programs on JKSOS in the J&K. She conveyed her good wishes to all the participants for success as ambassadors of JKBOSE for this noble cause which has a great potential of bringing ‘Out of School Children’ back to their studies.
Director Academics/ JKSOS of JKBOSE, Prof Sudhir Singh inaugurated the programme and emphasised the role of teachers in spreading awareness and connecting the drop outs, children of disadvantaged and marginalised communities and working people with the immensely beneficial initiative of JKBOSE in the domain of Open Schooling System.
“There has been no enrollment from many places till date. This implies that people are unaware about it. It will be a great contribution to the society if we all can join hands together for reaching out to the needy groups so that optimum benefit can be extracted from this scheme. I look forward to the Principals for organising sessions with their neighbourhood, local body representatives, parents and NGOs for spreading a word of awareness for this cause and CEOs to take a follow up of the same. Adding this feature in morning assemblies shall also involve the young minds in this cause,” he added.
The session at Govt Degree College, Shopian Kashmir was organized by the team of JKBOSE Academics Division led by DrArif Jan, Dy Director Academics KD.
The programme was attended by more than 100 participants including HOIs from government and private schools, SMDC members, members of civil society of District Shopian.
The participants were briefed about the benefits of open schooling and made aware of how out-of-school-children and children unable to avail formal education due to various reasons/circumstances can be brought under the ambit of open schooling.
