Srinagar: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir organised three entrepreneurship awareness programs on ‘Hybrid Seed Production of Vegetable Crops’ in Ganderbal district.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office SKUAST-K here, the training was organised by SKUAST-K’s Division of Vegetable Science under the sponsorship of the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. This programme under the EAP scheme is an effort to provide awareness to vegetable growers or budding entrepreneurs about hybrid seed production of vegetable crops. The objective of this awareness program was to identify gaps in the startup ecosystem and develop strategies to create an enabling environment for scaling up successful agri-startups. The trainings were conducted at three locations i.e., Gutlibagh, Khranihama and Repore areas of District Ganderbal on separate dates, and fifty participants attended each program. During the awareness program lectures were delivered by experts from the Division of Vegetable Science DrUmmyiah H Masoodi, Dr Syed BerjesZehra and DrAsima Amin who highlighted different aspects/importance of hybrid seed production in vegetable crops like a scientific package of practice, seed extraction, seed drying, and packaging. An idea about seed certification and branding was also provided to the participants. Concluding the set of three trainings the program coordinator DrGazalaNazir was thankful to the participants for participating in the program with great interest and enthusiasm. She was also thankful to Nodal Officer MSME DrHaroonNaik and Head Division of Vegetable Science DrBaseeratAfroza for giving her an opportunity and platform for organizing the three courses of this training successfully at three different locations of UT of Kashmir.
