Shopian: The District Hospital Shopian in south Kashmir operates without a CT scan facility, leaving the people in a lurch.
Despite its upgrade to a district hospital, the institution lacks essential infrastructure, especially the much-needed CT scan facility, the local residents said. They expressed their distress over the absence of a CT scan machine in any of the health centres within the district.
Rouf Ahmad, a local social activist, highlighted the plight of poor patients, saying, “The lack of a CT scan machine in the district health centres forces people to visit expensive private diagnostic centres or other hospitals. This is a burden, especially for those who cannot afford these services.”
Mubarak Ahmad, another resident, criticised the district’s leaders for their “apparent inaction” in addressing the healthcare gap.
“Despite having ministers and leaders from the district, critical facilities like a CT scan machine remain absent,” he said.
Local residents and activists have called on the authorities to address this issue promptly.
A health official said that they have already communicated the necessity of a CT scan facility to higher authorities. “We are expecting installation of the facility at the hospital very soon,” he said
