Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Budgam and Anantnag districts and also recovered contraband substance from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Station Budgam at a checkpoint established at Nendwanpora, intercepted a suspicious person identified as Pargat Singh S/o Meg Singh R/o Dugri Tehsil Malerkotla at present brick kiln 711 Nendwanpora Budgam while carrying a nylon bag, adding therein that as the said suspect tried to flee from the spot he was apprehended tactfully by the alert police party. Police in it’s statement further said that during search, 6Kgs 300 grams of poppy straw like contraband substance concealed in the nylon bag was recovered from possession of the said suspect who was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
Stating that in a similar action in Anantnag, a police party from Police Station Mattan at a checkpoint established at Gopalpora Kalan- Khurd road intercepted two persons identified as Mohd Rafiq Sheikh S/O Gh Mohd Sheikh R/o Gopalpora Kalan and Hilal Ahmad Sheikh S/O Abdul Rashid Sheikh R/o Sheikh Mohalla Gopalpora and during search recovered 17.5 KGs of Charas powder from their possession following which police arrested and shifted the said accused to police station where they remain in custody, adding therein that police has accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and initiated further investigation into the case.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement Police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
