Skill training on design, installation of solar PV rooftop system begins at SKUAST-K

Srinagar: A weeklong Advanced Entrepreneurship Skill Development Program on ‘Design and Installation of Solar PV Rooftop System’ commenced Monday at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, Shalimar campus.
The training is organised by the SKUAT-K’s Division of Renewable Energy Engineering (REE), College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology under the sponsorship of the Union Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) under the Advanced Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programme (ESDP) category.
The aim of the training programme is to motivate the participants and impart the necessary skills to drive the solar energy revolution by polishing the concept, design and components with a specific focus on the technical architecture of solar rooftop system and simultaneously grooming the concepts regarding different business models followed in the solar rooftop market and role of stakeholders in this scenario.
Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-K, Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai, who was the chief guest in the inaugural function, stressed the importance of these market-relevant skill trainings for nurturing the future landscape of innovation and entrepreneurship. He interacted with each participant registered in the training.
Dr Showkat Rasool, in the welcome address, highlighted the need for implementing alternative power sources especially solar power in the upcoming energy challenges. Associate Dean, CoAE&T, Prof Rohitashw Kumar highlighted the role of solar energy in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating climate change. Dr Kalay Khan, training coordinator emphasised on the dire need and momentousness of solar power in J&K (UT). Head, Division of Renewable Energy Engineering (REE), and training director Dr Mudasir Ali gave the overview of the training. He summarised the contents of the training program and explained the importance of each section. He emphasized that the training period of one week is specially designed to cover the area of design of PV systems by Advanced PVSYST software and installation process. Dr Rishi Richa, assistant professor, REE, presented the vote of thanks.
About 25 entrepreneurs, unemployed youth and students are participating in the training. The resource persons who are conducting the training are renowned experts in the field from reputed national institutions.
