Veteran Journalist G N Khayal , recipient of Sahtiya Academy Award passes away, death widely condoled

Srinagar| Oct, 15: Gh Nabi Khayal a veteran journalist and a recipient of Sahtiya Academy Award from Jammu and Kashmir passed away here on Sunday.

Khayal passed away at the age of 85. He had received Sahtiya Academy Award for his book ‘Gaashik Minaar’ in 1975. He breathed his last at his residence here,family sources said. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. All his children are working abroad. Khayal authored more than 30 books and started his career as a news reader in Radio Kashmir in 1950s.

Political leaders including  Prof Saif Ud Din Soz a former Union Minster Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari the President J&K Apni Party and a former Minister, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen another former Minister and Chairman Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Fron(J&K PDF), top senior journalists of repute from Kashmir and literary organisations have condoled the death of Gh Nabi Khayal. 

In his condolence message Prof Saif Ud Din Soz a former Union Minister said passing away of Khayal is a great loss not only to writers in Urdu, Kashmir and English languages, but it is a great loss to the people of Kashmir. He said that Ghulam Nabi Khayal will be remembered long not only for his contribution in Urdu and Kashmiri languages, but for his keen sense of belonging to Kashmir. Soz also that through his weekly English language – The Voice of Kashmir, Khayal connected  social and political situations and was thoroughly clear in his thought-process.   “I offer my sincere condolences to the bereaved family, ” Soz said

Condoling the demise of Khayal, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari the President J&K Apni Party said “Saddened over the death of prolific writer and Sahitya Academy Award recipient Ghulam Nabi Khayal Sahab.” He said Khayal revolutionized the literary field with his writings which reflected the different facets of the society and also touched some otherwise untouched realities of the times. “The demise of Khayal Sahab has created a void in the literary field and it’ll take much time for us to find someone like him. May his soul rest in peace and solace,” said Bukhari, in a post on X.

Condoling the demise of Gh Nabi Khayal the Chairman Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front ( J&K PDF) and former Minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen  expressed is grief and sorrow over the demise of Gh. Nabi Khayal . Expressing his grief and sorrow over the demise of Khayal , Hakeem said that demise of Khayal was a big loss to the kashmiri language ,literature and art, adding therein that his contribution to kashmiri art , language and literature was immense which will go down in golden latters in the annals of Kashmir history . Hakeem  conveyed his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family and has prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
