Review meeting of National Rabies Control Prog 2023 held at Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu

Jammu: Under the supervision of Director Health Services Jammu Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, a review meeting of National Rabies Control Programme was held on Saturday at Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, which was organized by the Office of the State Surveillance Unit, Jammu Division.
District Health Officers (DHOs), Block Medical Officers (BMOs), Medical Officers (MOs) and District Epidemiologist from district Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Ramban, Udhampur and Reasi participated in the meeting.
Assistant Director Schemes Directorate of Health Services Jammu Dr. Sanjay Turki, Medical Superintendent, Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu Dr. Parveen Yograj, Deputy Director Animal Husbandry Department Dr. D.K Bhagat also attended the meeting.
Dr. Harjeet Rai, Epidemiologist/State Surveillance Officer, Jammu Division welcomed all the participants. He explained the importance of NRCP which is aimed to prevent and control deaths due to Rabies in humans and progressively achieving SDG target for “Dog mediated Rabies-Zero by 2030 and he also emphasised on intersectoral coordination between Medical sector-Veterinary sectors and Municipality Corporation to achieve this goal.
AD Schemes, gave brief description about NRCP and he also discussed the strategies & achievements of the programme.
Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry Department, mentioned about the role and responsibilities of Animal Husbandry Department in implementing the NRCP programme.
Medical Superintendent, Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu stressed that such training should be routinely organized as the staff gets reoriented with the latest developments and guidelines.
Presentations covering salient aspects and guidelines of the NRCP, Pathogenesis, Clinical features & Prevention of Rabies, Animal Component of NRCP and Role of Animal Husbandry and Municipality in NRCP were given by the resource persons-
Dr. Prem Lata, Medical Officer Epidemiology Office, Dr. Anuj Kapoor, Lecturer Department of Community Medicine, GMC-Jammu and Dr. Harpreet Kour, VAS Department of Animal Husbandry.
