JU, SWD organise Short Term Finishing Course for Children of Parisha & Palash

Jammu: A four-day short term finishing course for children of Parisha and Palash, organised by Skill Development and Career Planning, SIIEDC, University of Jammu in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department concluded on Saturday.
A composite group of girls and boys from Parisha and Palash of District Jammu, Samba, Kathua and Udhampur were imparted training in life skills by various experts in the area.
The course was held under the guidance of Professor Umesh Rai, VC, University of Jammu and Sheetal Nanda Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, Social Welfare Department from 4th October.
Speaking on the occasion, Vivek Sharma, Director General, Social Welfare Department, Jammu being Chief Guest of the event, said that the department is committed to the welfare of all the sections of the society across gender, age groups and regions.
She congratulated the University for taking the lead in collaborating with the Social welfare department to bring the teaching and training resources to these children. She said it would make a tangible effect on their approach to life and success.
Prof Alka Sharma, Director SIIEDC shared that the University is actively engaging in providing skill training across the different sections of the society. She further stressed on the importance of such courses which are not only essential for honing one’s personality but also emerge as important markers to attain employment at national and international levels. She expressed hope that SIIEDC shall continue to collaborate with the Social Welfare Department to bring these trainings to those most in need of it.
Dr Garima Gupta, Coordinator Skill Development and Career planning apprised the audience of the various activities that were taken up during the training. She shared that experts from Central University and free lance trainers conducted the sessions for the students on various aspects of communication skills, confidence building, self-awareness, body language and public speaking. All the students actively participated in the activities and found the experience enriching and uplifting as they shared in their feedback and suggested that such programmes should be offered at regular intervals in the university campus.
The program concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants and was well managed by DR Jasleen Kaur, the co-coordinator of the course. Among those present were Dr Anil Gupta, Coordinator Entrepreneurship Vertical and Director SHTM, Dr Shallu Sehgal, Associate Professor Dept of Economics, Manoj Kumar, JKAS, Under Secretary to the Government, Social Welfare Department and also staff of the department including Superintendents of the Parisha and Palash, R.S Pura.
