Zulfkar inaugurates LMD office complex at Akhnoor

Jammu:  Terming Consumer protection as main concern of coalition Government, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) and Information Choudhary Zulfkar Ali Monday said that there will be no compromise on safeguarding Consumer Rights and those found engaged in unfair trade practices will be dealt strictly.

The Minister was addressing   functionaries of LMD and FCS&CA and members of business fraternity  after inaugurating Working Standard Laboratory along with Legal Metrology Office Building at Akhnoor in Jammu here Monday.MLA Akhnoor Rajeev Sharma was also present on the occasion.

The Building constructed by J&K Housing Board Department has been completed at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh. The laboratory will provide standardization in measurements to the trading community and   people of Akhnoor and adjoining areas. The laboratory will also cater the needs of more than 5000 business establishments functioning in and around Akhnoor.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister appreciated the J&K Housing Department for completing the building in a short time span of eight months.

While highlighting the importance of the Legal Metrology Department, the Minister said that the government is focusing on making LMD a vibrant unit for larger interest of consumers of the State. He said efforts are being made to construct one LMD building in every district of the State. In this regard, the construction work of six LMD building in various districts is near completion.

The Minister urged upon the State Housing Board to complete the construction work on remaining buildings of the department within shortest possible time.

Zulfkar Ali said the present dispensation is working earnestly towards creating a conducive and comfortable atmosphere for its employees so that they deliver the best to the public.

Commissioner Secretary FCS & CA Shafiq Ahmed Raina, Director FCS&CA, Jammu R. A. Inqlabi, Joint Controller Legal Metrology, Jammu, V S Sambyal, Deputy Controller LMD Manoj Prabakhar, SDM Akhnoor and other concerned officers attended the function.
