While the G20 summit under India’s Presidency becoming a proud moment for the people of India, the announcement of Delhi Declaration by G20 leaders showing a complete consensus among the member states on economic and environment fronts is undoubtedly a remarkable achievement of India’s presidency under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Delhi Declaration adopted at G20 summit in Delhi with complete consensus among the member states is virtually an endorsement of the agenda of digital public infrastructure, management of the economic affairs post Covid-19 pandemic and sustainable development implemented for the last more than four years by the incumbent Government in India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his opening address at the 55 member summit meeting conveying a message that India’s G20 presidency is a symbol of inclusiveness, the call for benefiting the developing countries delivered by Prime Minister Modi was convincing for all the world leaders present at the summit as this was beyond the present discourse on global diplomacy surrounding around the scenario that developed after the Russia-Ukraine conflict. With US President Joe Biden calling upon all the G20 countries to agree collectively to the doctrine of concessional finance to boost the World Bank’s capacity to support low- and middle-income countries, the call for inclusiveness for combating the challenges of climate change and sustainable development by Prime Minister Modi got a huge boost.
“At a time when the world is becoming more divided, India has done the great job of binding the most developed countries of the world with dozens of developing countries purely on human centric approach. Though Delhi declaration is undoubtedly a great achievement for G20 countries under India’s presidency but the great challenge for the G20 from now onwards would be implementation of the Delhi declaration in coming years”.
While respect to territorial sovereignties of the sovereign states in reference to Russian-Ukraine war was reiterated to show consensus even on Russia-Ukrain War, the consensus on the agenda of climate change, sustainable development and Public Infrastructure has led to a breakthrough as launch of a new strong economic corridor called “India-Middle East-Europe corridor” would now connect India to the Middle East and the East Europe. While India has got a historical opportunity to team up with the United States, European Union, Saudi Arabi and Unite Arab Emirates, the implementation of the Delhi Declaration would give several wealthiest economies of the world a historical opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of public infrastructure in dozens of developing countries yet to achieve milestones in economic sustainability.
