Srinagar: Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, Arun Kumar Mehta on Tuesday said that the government has brought nearly one Lakh Out of School Children (OoSC) back to educational institutions.
Dr. Mehta while speaking at the Teachers Day at Kashmir International Convention Centre (KICC) said, “Last year, we brought nearly one lakh Out of School Children back to the schools.”
He also said that in NIPUN Bharat, Jammu and Kashmir has secured first position in India.
“Nowadays, the role of a teacher would be to carve out the hidden talent of the students,” Mehta said.
The Chief Secretary suggested the teachers not to worry about their issues related to promotion and transfers, saying, “The department will take care of such issues. Teacher’s need to take care of the issues or problems faced by the students.”
“Many a times, I have seen teachers running for transfers and promotions. I think these issues should be made completely predictable and the teachers should be made aware of it, as to when they have transfers and promotions so that academics won’t suffer and the teachers can concentrate on teaching only,” he said.
Mehta added that the education department should have a future ready plans and with the time, the students as well as teachers need to upgrade themselves to stay relevant with the world.
“As of now I think we need to focus on those students who are involved in drugs in schools and colleges because I feel the teachers are the guardians of the society,” he said.
Meanwhile, Principal Secretary, School Education Department Alok Kumar on the occasion said that the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (UT) has taken a lead in implementing New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
“Teachers truly shape the future of children and it is because of that they have the utmost respect in the society. A good teacher is one of the greatest blessings of the world,” Kumar said.
He also said, “On this teachers day, we do not only celebrate the invaluable contribution of our educators. This day also reflects the transformations brought by them to the School Education Department.”
“The School Education Department has come up with several digital initiatives which includes the digital learning process which empowers learners to access e-content,” Kumar said.
