Inter College Seminar as part of Digital Week Celebration held at Amarsingh College

Srinagar: A student seminar was on Monday held by the Department of Computer Applications in collaboration with the Debates and Seminars Committee, Amar Singh College Srinagar in the Bukhari Hall of the college.
The seminar was held as part of the week-long Digital India Week Celebrations being held in the college from 01 September to 06 September, 2023.
Around 15 students from eight colleges of Srinagar including GDC Hyderpora, S. P. College, COE Srinagar, GDC Bemina, VB College, Women’s College M.A. Road, Islamia College and A. S. College participated in the seminar. They included Farman Nisar and Soban Rashid Bhat (S.P. College Srinagar), Nadeem Ayoub and Aqsa Shafi (IASE Srinagar), Atoofa Zahoor and Burhan Ahmad (GDC Bemina), Shahid Manzoor and Ikhlas Manzoor (V.B. College Srinagar), Tabish Dar and Hadiya Sultan (A.S. College Srinagar), Sadiya Talat (Women’s College M.A. Road), Saqib Mushtaq (Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Srinagar) and Aqsa (GDC Hyderpora).
Dr. Basharat Saleem, Assistant Professor, English conducted the proceedings. Prof. Jehan Ara, Assistant Professor, Functional English, Prof. Arshad Hussain Bhat, Assistant Professor, Computer Applications and Prof. Pervaiz Ahmad Dar, Assistant Professor, Zoology were the jury members. Dr. Gurdip Singh Sodi, Head, Department of Computer Applications coordinated the event with support from Prof. Arshad Yatoo, Prof. Ovais Shafi Zargar, and Faisal Maqbool, Assistant Professors, Department of Computer Applications, A. S. College Srinagar.
The event started with a Welcome Address by Dr. Gurdip Singh Sodi, Head Department of Computer Applications. He welcomed the participants and explained the theme of the seminar. He stressed upon the importance of the latest developments in technology and urged students to exchange ideas, challenges, assumptions and help spark innovation that can shape our future.
Afterwards, the students spoke about various aspects of trends in technology including the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cryptocurrency, Virtual Reality, Web 3.0, Internet of Things, 5G etc. The students emphasized the need to adopt new technologies responsibly and understand their capabilities and risks. Students also spoke about the role of India as a global superpower in Digital Technologies.
The presentations of the students were judged on the basis of Content, Presentation and Body Language. The presentation of Sadiya Talat of Women’s College M.A. Road was judged as the best presentation about the need to embrace the wonders of technology. Saqib Mushtaq of Islamia College of Science and Commerce won the 2nd prize for his speech about the impact of Generative AI in various fields. Tabish Dar of A. S. College Srinagar came 3rd with his presentation about different developments in technology.
The winners were awarded with merit certificates and mementos. Other participants were awarded participation certificates.
Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Principal, A.S. College Srinagar congratulated the students on their presentations. He spoke at length about the benefits of technology in our lives and stressed that technologies like AI can be a good tool in the right hands and that it has been seen that technology recalibrates jobs rather than replace them. He urged students to learn the use of AI tools to enhance their skill set to become more productive and ready for the AI-disrupted job market.
The vote of thanks was given by Prof. Arshad Ahmad Yattoo, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Applications.
