Horti Deptt Jmu organises Capacity Building Program for Bishnah Farmers

Jammu: The Department of Horticulture Jammu on Wednesday organised Capacity Building Program for Farmers of Bishnah block under Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP).
During the Capacity Building Program, the farmers visited Mega Fruit Plant Nursery of Department of Horticulture at Chakroi, Centre of Excellence, SKUAST-J, Udheywalla Jammu besides Dragon Fruit Orchard and High Density Guava Cv. Taiwan Pink Orchards at Kadyal, R.S.Pura, interacted with the progressive orchardists especially Strawberry Growers and learnt a lot from their experience.
Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu, Ashwani Sharma, Head, Centre of Excellence SKUAST-J, Dr. Vikas Tandon, District Level- Subject Matter Specialist (Pomology), Sandeep Gupta and Horticulture Development Officer Satwari, Dheeraj Sharma interacted with the Farmers during the Program.
The farmers were made aware of the latest scientific techniques being adopted for the mass production of quality plant material for various kinds of fruit plants at Mega Fruit Plant Nursery, Chakroi and Centre of Excellence, Udheywalla and they were very much impressed with the latest innovations being adopted in these Centres by visiting these Centres personally as “Seeing is believing”. Dheeraj Sharma Horticulture Development Officer accompanied the Farmers during the exposure Visit.
One Day Training Program on Vegetative Propagation Techniques and Scientific Orchard Management for the Gardeners of Jammu District was also organized simultaneously by the Department of Horticulture, Jammu at Government Fruit Plant Nursery, Garhi Mishriwalla wherein Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu, Ashwani Sharma, Head, Centre of Ecellence SKUAST-J and District level- Subject Matter Specialist (Pomology) Jammu educated and trained the participants in various techniques of Vegetative propagation viz. Grafting, budding, air layering for multiplication of quality plant material and various aspects of Scientific Orchard Management.
Horticulture Technician, Kewal Manhas gave live demonstration and hand on training on different techniques to the trainees. Tool kits were distributed free of cost to the trainees in the end.
