Srinagar: J&K Electrical Employees Union (JKEEU) on Monday staged a protest outside the KPDCL office at Jehangir Chowk, Srinagar and demanded the release of salaries and fulfilment of things made in the 2021 agreement.
President of the JKEEU, Naseer Ahmad Bhat, said that they were protesting against the withholding of their salaries from the last two months. He alleged besides the salaries of regular employees, the daily wagers and even the Chief Engineer’s salaries were also not released.
“The protest is going on in J&K and we gave a call for today’s strike for the release of our salaries. Besides the salaries, If our other genuine demands, regarding which an agreement was done in 2021, are not fulfilled then we will go on mass casual leave on 2nd [September] and a strike on 11th [September],” said the JKEEU President.
Bhat also alleged that they were promised at the time of agreement in 2021 that their genuine demands would be fulfilled and the salaries would be released on the 1st of each month.
“My daily wagers were also given a word in the agreement that they would be regularized immediately on the basis of the availability of vacancies,” he added.
He also said that the families of their department’s workers, who died in the line of duty, are in such a plight as neither the SRO nor the ex-gratia has been given to them. The JKEEU President also sought an intervention of the Lieutenant Governor for the redressal of the issues and said they were an important cog in realizing the administration’s dream of the Smart City and others.
