Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it alongwith security forces busted two militant modules by arresting eight militant associates linked with LeT militant outfit besides recovering incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that on August 8, a joint team of Baramulla Police and Army (16 SIKHLI) during joint patrolling and area domination at Churunda Uri noticed one suspected person who was roaming in the area and tried to flee while noticing patrolling party but was apprehended tactfully and during searches two Grenades were recovered from his possession following which he was taken into custody immediately.
Stating that the accused has been identified as Showkat Ali Awan S/o Abdul Karim Awan R/o Churunda Uri, Police in it’s statement further said that during further questioning the said accused revealed the names of his accomplices Ahmad Din S/o Shukur Din R/o Churunda Uri & Mohammad Sadeeq Khatana S/o Umer Din R/o Churunda who were questioned and upon their disclosure also, two Grenades, one Chinese Pistol, one Pistol Magazine and four live rounds were recovered from them.
Police in it’s statement further said that in a similar action on August 11, a Joint party of Baramulla Police and Army (16 SIKHLI) during naka checking at Powarian Thajal Uri signaled one Maruti Swift vehicle bearing no (CHOID-9588) to stop, who was coming from Thajal to Uri. Stating that while the said vehicle was stopped the driver and other four persons boarding the vehicle insisted the naka party to allow them to proceed to hospital due to certain medical emergencies upon which naka party felt suspicious about them, Police in it’s statement furthermore said that the naka party immediately started search of the vehicle and during search recovered four hand grenades, two Pistols, two Pistol Magazines, 10 live rounds and cash of Rs 50,000 from their possession.
Police in it’s statement furthermore said all the five persons including the driver were taken into custody immediately and they were identified as Akhter Bhat S/o Niyaz Bhat R/o Tarzoo Sopore, Mohammad Aslam Khatana S/o Ata Mohammad R/o Churunda Uri, Muneer Ahmad S/o Mohiuddin R/o Jabla Uri, Mudasir Yousuf Gokno S/o Mohammad Yousuf R/o Krankshivan and Bilal Ahmad Dar S/o Gh Mohiuddin R/o Hardushiva.
Stating that the said accused persons were involved in cross border smuggling of arms and ammunition at the behest of Pakistan based militant handlers and it’s distribution to LeT militants for carrying out militant activities, Police in it’s statement also said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Uri and also initiated further investigation into the case.
