BGSBU Celebrates Independence Day

Srinagar : Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University celebrated 77th Independence Day with patriotic fervor and gaiety here on Tuesday. Prof. Akbar Masood, Vice Chancellor BGSBU received the guard of honor and unfurled the National flag.
According to a statement issued from BGSBU here, speaking on the occasion, Prof. Akbar paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters who laid their lives in the struggle for India’s freedom. He urged the audience that we should always value our freedom and must not forget the supreme sacrifices of our freedom fighters.
Prof. Akbar mentioned that India has achieved a distinctive position on the globe and has emerged as one of the fastest economies in the world.
Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University observed 77th Independence Day with week-long activities starting from August 10 culminating activities of Meri Mati Mera Desh that honours freedom fighters and celebrates many achievements of the nation.
Prof. Akbar along with NSS volunteers planted trees . Under the Panch Prana Pratigya, Vice chancellor along with staff and students present on the occasion took oath that they will fulfill the dream of making India self-reliant and developed by 2047 and will fulfill all the duties of being citizens of India while strengthening the unity of India.
A Tiranga rally was also organised in the campus which was led by Vice Chancellor of the University. Spelling out the significance of the campaign, Prof.Akbar said that organising such programmes instill a sense of belonging to the nation and national pride.
The rally started from School of Biosciences and Biotechnology and proceeded through the departments of the campus and later culminated at the administrative block.
The rally saw an overwhelming participation from faculty, staff and students who later took the ‘Panch Pran’ (five pledges) with ‘Maati’ (soil) and ‘Diya’ (earther lamp) on their palms.
On the occasion, all the important buildings of the University including Vice Chancellor’s residence were illuminated with tricolour. A multilingual mushaira was also organised after the flag hoisting ceremony in the campus. On the ocassion , the NSS wing of the University felicitated the family members of the martyrs who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
