Anti-Ragging week awareness activities commences in GCW Udhampur

Udhampur: To raise awareness about the menace of ragging and its adverse effects on the students, Anti Ragging awareness week commenced on Saturday here in Government College for Women (GCW), Udhampur under the Convenership of Prof Tania Akhtar.
In this context, Anti-ragging Day was celebrated by organizing an orientation program on “Say No to Ragging” for the students and faculty.
Dr. Mool Raj, officiating Principal of the college was the chief guest on the occasion.
In his address Dr. Mool Raj congratulated the organizers and praised their efforts in organizing an event that would help spread the take home message among the students that ragging is strictly frowned upon in this institution and will be dealt with severe consequences, if anyone is found guilty of indulging in it.
The resource person on the occasion was Dr. Usha Sharma HOD Sociology, GCW Udhampur. Dr. Sharma started her talk by throwing light on the meaning of ragging and it’s constituents according to UGC regulations. She further deliberated upon various steps taken by Government of India to curb the menace of ragging in higher institutions. She apprised the audience with the strong Key recommendations of Raghavan committee. She further exhorted upon the punishable ingredients of ragging (UGC,2009) and punishments (UGC,2009). She ended her talk by giving the information to the students about the anti-ragging toll free helpline no 180-180-5522 in 12 languages for helping ragging victims established by UGC and also anti-ragging websites.
Earlier, the program started with the formal welcome address by Prof. Tania Akhtar, Convener Anti-Ragging Cell besides the formal vote of thanks presented by Prof. Roopa Kumari.
Dr.Meena Gupta, Prof. Roopa Kumari, Dr. Shaveta Sharma, Prof. Tania Mahajan and Prof. Pooja Bharti also graced the program with their benign presence.
