CUK’s Deptt of Tourism holds workshop on white-water rafting

Ganderbal: Department of Tourism Studies (DTS), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) on Thursday organized a two-day workshop on white-water rafting for the students of MTTM & B.Voc (T&HM) at Wusun Ganderbal.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office Central University of Kashmir, all the students participated in the rafting ride over a stretch of 7-8 Kilometres from Wusan to Wayil over Nallah Sindh and exhibited huge interest in water sports.
The event was flagged-off by the Dean, SOBS, Prof. Fayaz Ahmed Nika who conveyed his good wishes to the participants. He deliberated about the potential of water based tourism in Kashmir and its need to promote it as one of the main tourism product. He said promoting sports activities is one of the priorities of the University and assured full support.
At the inaugural function at Wusan, Dr. Ashaq Hussain Najar, Coordinator DTS spoke about the tremendous potential of tourism in J&K especially in terms of adventure sports. He said that Kashmir has been bestowed with heterogeneous tourism products, which can be offered to the tourists across the globe; the only thing is to capitalize on them in the most sustainable way. He highlighted that imparting different skills to the students is the main objective as envisioned in NEP-2020 and DTS is achieving the same.
Dr. Faizan Ashraf Mir, Asst Prof. apprized the students about various tourism entrepreneurial opportunities available to them. He insisted the students to capitalize on the varied adventure tourism products of the valley in order to boost Kashmir tourism and to earn their livelihood.
Mr. Dupesh, (Technical Expert-Water sports) from ATOAK interacted with the students and apprized them about the technical skills required for the white water rafting and their use in the development of water based adventure tourism start-ups.
Dr Abid Suhail Nika Asst Prof. conducted the programme while Dr. Ramjit (Sr. Asst Prof.) proposed vote of thanks.
