Jammu: Lauding the role of National Medicos Organization (NMO) besides others who organized medical camps in rural and border areas of the State, Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh said steps are afoot to provide quality healthcare facilities to people at their doorstep.

Deputy Chief Minister said this during valedictory function of five-day long Rishi Kashyap Swasthya Sewa Yatra (RKSSY) at Government Medical College, Jammu here Saturday.

RKSSY was conducted by National Medicos Organization, Ekal Abhiyan, Sewa Bharati and Arogya Foundation of India.

Dr Singh said such medical cum awareness camps help in bridging the gaps by creating awareness among general public about the prevention of various diseases and their treatment. He recognized the efforts of doctors from various states of India who dedicated their free and selfless services to people of Jammu and Kashmir during this 5-day health campaign.

He urged the participants who came from outside the State to share their experiences in their respective States.  He said doctors should be appreciated for their dedication to keep up with advances in their respective fields, and for the kindness and charity they give to the society.

About 17000 patients suffering from various ailments were attended by doctors and representatives of National Medico Organization during the camps. A total of 111 Medical Checkup camps were organized in various remote and border areas of the Jammu and Kashmir State during which free medicines were also distributed among beneficiaries.

NMO aims to organize and motivate allopathic doctors for serving under-privileged sections of the society, settled in the tribal village and slum areas. From its inception, NMO is working untiringly in providing devoted voluntary health services primarily to interior villages through Seva activities and with its slogans ‘Swasthya Seva – Rashtra Seva’

The RKSSY was organized under the supervision of Principal GMC Dr Sunanda Raina, National Secretary NMO, Dr Om Parkash and other members of National Medicos Organization.

Among others, doctors, faculty members and students of GMC and other parts of the country were also present on the occasion.
