Awareness Prog on “Dev of Post Cocoon Technology” held at Poonch Campus

Poonch: University of Jammu, Poonch Campus organized an awareness programme on Development of Post Cocoon Technology, here on Monday.
The Awareness Programme was organized in collaboration with Silk Technology Service Centre, CSRTI Central Silk Board, and Ministry of Textiles Government Jammu.
Dr N.S Gahlot, Scientist-D (R&S)/Zonal Officer Silk Technology Service Centre, CSRTI Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles Government of India, who is on a three day visit to border district Poonch, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Present on the occasion were Bharat Bhashan Senior Technical Assistant CSRTI, Dr Rubia Bukhari Campus Officer Poonch Campus, Dr Suraksha Chanotra, Dr Muzafar Ahmad Bhat, Kalpna Sudan, Sumya Kapoor, Students and non teaching staff members; Mohd Arshad, Mohd Sagheer and Sandeep Kumar from the Department of Sericulture, Poonch Campus.
In his address, the Director Poonch Campus Prof. Rakesh Vaid thanked Dr N.S Gahlot, Scientist-D (R&S)/Zonal Officer Silk Technology Service Centre, CSRTI Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles Govt of India, Jammu for organizing the Awareness Programme in Poonch Campus University to benefit the stakeholders.
He said that the new technology promises to reduce labour, improve silk quality, conserve water and cut down pollution. “With this, they will make sarees, besides using silk in medicine, cosmetics and nutraceutical purposes.” He further hoped that in future also, CSRTI will organize such programmes at Poonch Campus which will not only help the students but also the registered farmers of the district.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr N.S Gahlot explained and emphasized the significance of producing high-quality cocoons for the production of raw silk that can be graded. He emphasized the need for extra care for cocoons during spinning and after harvesting and provided an explanation of the necessary drying processes for improving raw silk and cocoons on both a quantitative and qualitative level.
He presented a power slide presentation that included various defective cocoon varieties, cocoon sorting before marketing, and various reeling devices. He further explained how to minimize the percentage of defective cocoons by using proper montages materials appropriate for this area.
Bharat Bhushan (STA), Jammu presented a detailed lecture on Importance of Post Cocoon Technology and how to improve the quality of raw silk for the participants.
Dr Rubia Bukhari in her address exhorted the participants to use innovative techniques in the field as explained by the Scientist. She thanked Dr N.S Gahlot for his valuable guidance given during the programme. She thanked CSRTI especially Dr N.S Gahlot for organizing this awareness programme on a very important topic.
The programme was followed by an interactive session. The participants put up various queries to the Dr N.S Gahlot. Their doubts were cleared to their entire satisfaction.
The Students of the Department of Sericulture, Poonch Campus expressed that the programme has helped them in enhancing their knowledge level. Dr. Rubia Bukhari presented the formal vote of thanks.
