DC Kishtwar Chairs 11th NCORD meeting, declares Chicha as 2nd Nasha Mukt Panchayat Provisionally

Says, ‘Kishtwar MC mulling to Launch Drug Free Ward Campaign - A Step Towards a Drug-Free Zone’

Kishtwar: The 11th Narco Coordination (NCORD) Committee meeting was convened on Friday at the DC Office Complex, Kishtwar, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav.
The meeting witnessed the provisional declaration of Panchayat Chicha, located in Block Nagseni of District Kishtwar, as the Second Nasha Mukht Panchayat of the district. The announcement was made in the presence of SSP Kishtwar Khalil Ahmed Poswal, along with the participation of various esteemed dignitaries and stakeholders.
The meeting was attended by DPO ICDS Dr. Rishi Kumar Sharma, SDM Chatroo Showkat Hayat Matoo; Tehsildar HQ Chander Shekhar Sharma; Tehsildar Kishtwar Umar Muneeb; Dy CMO, Dy CEO, Nodal Officer Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) District Hospital Kishtwar Dr. Arif Rashid, Rajesh Kumar Tehsil Social Welfare Office Headquarters Kishtwar, heads of educational Institutions; Faculty members from Colleges; Officials from Social Welfare, ASHAs, and AWWs, PRIs from panchayats of Sigdi B1,Chicha, Philler-B and Dadpeth, besides other members.
In his address, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the significance of adopting a comprehensive approach to combat the pervasive issue of drug and substance abuse in the district. He underscored the importance of focusing on multiple facets, including the medical care of addicted patients, the declaration of Nasha Mukt Panchayats, and the active involvement of A ASHAs, Anganwadi Workers (AWWs), and teachers in the Nasha Mukt Panchayat Abhiyan.
The Deputy Commissioner called for collaborative efforts from all stakeholders to develop action plans aimed at implementing intervention measures in areas severely affected by drug abuse. He emphasized the need for both stringent enforcement measures and compassionate rehabilitation programs to effectively address the menace of drug abuse.
DC informed that, similarly on the lines of Nasha Mukt Panchayats, shortly Nashat Mukt Wards campaign shall be launched in the Municipal area, after a detailed meeting with the MC members and other stakeholders.
During the meeting, SSP Kishtwar shared valuable insights and recommendations, contributing to the comprehensive approach discussed. The participants also deliberated on the number of cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Furthermore, the meeting emphasized strict adherence to the instructions issued by the government with regard to achieving a drug-free society under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The Deputy Commissioner specifically urged the authorities of the Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) at District Hospital Kishtwar to provide compassionate treatment to addicts.
The meeting also provided a platform to review the progress made on the action points discussed in the previous meeting. The Deputy Commissioner personally engaged with ASHAs, AWWs, and PRIs from Sigdi B1, Chicha, Philler B, and Dadpeth Panchayats, acknowledging their commendable efforts in combating substance abuse and expressing gratitude for their unwavering commitment to the cause. He emphasized the need for conducting more awareness and training programs to further enhance their capacities.
Moreover, the meeting stressed the importance of intensified weed destruction measures throughout the district, recognizing it as a crucial step in curbing substance abuse.
Following the meeting, the ATF team promptly provided ASHAs, AWWs, and PRIs from Chicha, Philler-B and Dadpeth Panchayats with the necessary training to effectively combat drug abuse.
The 11th NCORD Committee meeting witnessed a collective commitment to eradicating the menace of drug and substance abuse from Kishtwar. The Deputy Commissioner and all stakeholders remain dedicated to implementing proactive measures, fostering collaboration, and creating a drug-free society.
